Hi, I have a issues with my computer. I had plugged my phone up to my computer through the usb [strike]headers[/strike] ports on the case and a little bit after a notification came up on computer screen saying power surge not enough power can be provided to the device (my phone),through usb then my computer shut off. What do you guys think happened? I can’t get the computer to turn back on so I unplugged the power supply and plugged it in the wall on its own with the motherboard chord and tested it and it wouldn’t come on. I guess the psu is dead now but I’m worried about getting a new one then putting it in and the same thing happen.
I’m running windows 10
Motherboard: Asus z170-E
CPU:i5 6500
Power: EVGA supernova 650w

Well you can do the old paperclip PSU check where you disconnect all the mobo power (the atx 20+4 and the cpu +12v connectors) then jump the PS_on to ground (which basically simulates the mobo telling the PSU to power up), if you have some fans or old hdd / optical drives plug them up you should be able to see them power on / eject the tray etc.

If it works it is possible the PSU is good and the mobo died. If it is dead, check your PSU model some of the EVGAs have a 10 year warranty would be good to get an RMA replacement.

It's also possible your phone USB cable had a short in it, and that possibly caused a problem in your mobo, I would check that cable ASAP and don't use it if it is damaged.
