Computer won't always post and/or boot.

I have recently rebuilt my system replacing 90% of the hardware. I originally built my PC at the end of 2009. Recently in June 2015 I bought new components to update my setup. Below is a full list of my current components as well as a link to my build thread.

Initially everything seemed to be running just fine with no issues. Fast forward about 3 months and I am having an issue where I am intermittently unable to boot my PC either from being turned off or while in sleep mode. It seems to have this issue only about ~20% of the time.

The following are things that typically happen:

  • ■Most of the time my PC boots/wakens normally.
■Sometimes my PC case will light up for a second or two then shut down.
■Sometimes my PC will finally boot after several attempts only to not send any signals to the monitor or peripherals.
■A couple times now after many failed attempts I am unable to get my PC to boot at all. The lights come on and shut off many times in a row and I give up.

I have followed all of the recommendations in this troubleshooting thread with no positive results.

At this point I suspect one of a few things:

  • ■My 6 year old PSU is going out and I need a new PSU. (seems most likely)
■I have a new mobo which is bad from stock. (seems very unlikely)
■Some other component such as my RAM or something it bad from stock. (seems very unlikely)

The symptoms match a bad PSU as directed by the following reference (link):

The computer turns on for a couple of seconds and then turns right back off. While this can be a power supply issue, often it can be easily confused with motherboard failures.

I am about to order a PSU but thought I would poll the forums to look for advice before I spend $150.

I certainly don't want to damage additional components in my using a bad PSU but I'm not sure how likely this may be.

To add to this, I use my PC for gaming. As such I monitor temps and load while gaming and all my GPU and CPU temps are normal when the PC decides to post and fully boot. Just throwing that out there since I see people mentioning issues with thermal compound. I used the stuff that came on my H100i.
