I switched off the computer normally yesterday and when i try to press the front panel power button nothing happens, no fans, no lights on mobo, no hard drive sounds. I tried to start using the power switch on the mobo (which has its LED lit up) still the same thing. I tried to unplug everything and boot up with 1 stick of ram still nothing. I read other threads having similar issues and most of them hint at either a dead PSU or motherboard but i don't understand how to check which one is it

My specs:-
Intel i5 4690k
16 gb ram
Nvidia 750ti
Asus Z-97 Motherboard
750 Watt corsair power supply

I literally just fixed my brothers with a similar problem about 10 mins ago.

I checked the PSU on another PC and it was fine.
I cleared the CMOS and nothing.
I took the motherboard out to clean any build up and power it on while still out of the case and it booted up. Something was probably touching the board.

I hope this solves your problem. :)
