I tried to turn my computer one one day, and it wouldn't boot. The monitor says "No Signal" and the keyboard lights won't come on. But the mouse does light up when I turn it on and when I opened my computer up I saw that the LED light on the motherboard still lights up when the power supply is plugged in. Also, for some reason I can't turn the computer off unless I unplug it.
I wanted to provide the specs that are listed in Proximon's thread here......but I don't know what most of those things are. Very little idea of what I'm looking at. I can tell you what I was able to observe though...
Motherboard: Asus A55BM-A/M32BF/DP_MB
RAM: M378B5173DB0-CK0. One stick.
Video Card: I think it's internal or something? I don't see anything peripheral attached in there.
Power Supply: Acbel Hba008-za1gt 350w
Operating System: Windows 8.1
This computer has worked fine for the past 3 years up until now. This is a fairly new computer so I don't think the motherboard would be dead by now. I don't think anything is unplugged because this computer worked fine up until just a couple of days ago. I've tried the various booting techniques (unplugging all of the hard drives and taking out all of the memory and booting) but my computer has never beeped, so silence doesn't tell me much.
I did try taking everything out and leaving the computer powered down for I think around an hour? And then I came back and plugged in the memory and re-attached all the hard drives, but didn't plug in the mouse or keyboard. And for some reason I was able to get it to boot again. But it didn't progress very far because there was no keyboard attached. So I plugged the keyboard in and tried pressing F2 to continue, as the screen said. But that didn't work. So I figured I had to reboot with the keyboard plugged in already. But now the computer won't come on again, like before. So I'm back to Square One. I don't know what it was that helped, whether it was the memory stick being out or the hard drives unplugged or if it just needed to be off.
Anyone familiar with this? Any insights would be real appreciated.
EDIT: I should also point out, I didn't take my computer apart or anything at first. This happened out of the blue. One day, without my opening my computer or taking anything out, my computer wouldn't come back on. Also, my computer is getting power and it'll come on, it just won't "boot" per se.
EDIT 2: I should also point out, the power button light comes on and the power supply hums to life. It's just the keyboard and monitor are unresponsive, suggesting that it's not booting.
EDIT 3: I found this connector with a long thin plug head, that seems to be tied to giving power to the motherboard. I unplug it, and the power button does nothing. So what I did was unplug it, and then plug it back in, and I was able to get the computer to come back on. Unfortunately, for reasons, I had to turn the computer back off. And now it won't come back on again. Back to square one. But what I wanna know is, why did reseating the plug work, and also why did reseating the plug work only once? If they problem was that the plug needed an adjustment or something, shouldn't adjusting it once make it work? I didn't move it or anything, didn't touch it at all. I thought fixing it once would fix it for good.
Also, I only just now realized, something is wrong with my keyboard. I tried plugging it into other computers, and when I do, the pre-startup thingamajig detects that I have no keyboard detected and that I should press F-Something to continue. So maybe my bad keyboard has something to do with this? Has anyone ever encountered something like this?
