Computer won't boot when adding extra 8GB?

Hello,

I recently got an extra 8GB of ram (2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 2133mhz) and I'm trying to install and get the new pair working with the old pair of ram (which is the same make/model/size/frequency). The only difference between the new and old pair is the versions of them, with the old pair being version 4.13 and the new pair being version 8.15.

I've installed and got both pairs working together two times over the past 3 days, one time with everything working okay for a few hours before the computer randomly shut off and then failed to boot up afterwards.

I've tried taking the old pair out and putting the new pair in their places, but the computer fails to boot after 5 seconds and keeps retrying. I also went into the BIOS when both pairs were working together and they both were running at the same frequency/speed as each other.

I then tried googling the problem and came across a few threads with people suggesting just powering off the computer and/or clearing the CMOS then waiting 10-15mins, but the same thing keeps happening (eventual BSOD or random power off and can't boot back up), so I don't know what the issue is.

My motherboard (ASRock Z77 Extreme4) supports up to 32GB and dual-channel and both ram stick pairs are the same make/model/size, so I don't understand why this is happening. If anyone has had a similar problem and/or knows what's going wrong then please reply.

Sorry for the long explanation and thank you :)

Happens all the time - ANY time you mix sets of DRAM it can be and often is problemmatic, even the same exact model - try strating with old sticks, raise DRAM voltage + 0.06 and raise the MC (memory controller) voltage + 0.075 (think it's either the CPUVTT or DDRVTT on your mobo)

Hi and thanks for replying,

I did what you suggested and increased the DRAM voltage and VTT voltage by those amounts and added the ram back in and the computer booted up normally. But after 10-15mins the computer freezes and has to be turned off at the wall. I also switched the ram pairings around in the slots and booted up normally too but results in the same freezing after a few mins.

Is there anything else that can be done to get them working together? Do I need to keep increasing the voltages or something similar? I have a 2500K OC'ed to 4.3GHz and used ASRock AXTU for the voltage changes if that changes anything.

Thanks

Do you mean go from 1.150 to 1.190 or 1.154?

My DRAM voltage is at 1.510 at the moment so what should I set that to as well?

Thanks

Hi again,

I just tried doing that, changing the DRAM and VTT voltages in bios to those numbers and then adding the new ram but the computer still won't boot up most of the time. The time it did boot up the computer just froze after loading the desktop and was forced to turn it off again.

Should I stop using AXTU? because when I booted up again after taking the ram out and loading to desktop, the DRAM and VTT voltages were back to default again for some reason and it may be causing the freezes (not sure though).

-UPDATE- I re-adjusted the voltage values in AXTU, shut down and installed the new ram with the old ones, and the computer booted up and has been fine for the past 2 hours with the values you suggested. Everything seems to be okay now with no BSOD or freezing happening (usually occurs within 10-15 mins after boot to desktop), so thank you very much :)

I'll post again if a freeze/BSOD does occur but hopefully that won't happen.

Thank you again Tradesman1 ;)

Okay so the computer decided to freeze again randomly after around 4 hours of working fine.

Is there anything else I should be doing or just keep increasing the DRAM/VTT voltages?

Thanks
