Hello guys, my rig is:
i7 6700k
Gigabyte Z170-HD3P
evga gtx 980 4gb (500watt)
3 ram modules
psu corsair 750 watt
1xssd
1xhdd
It has a thermaltake cpu cooler with a small fan that makes some noise. Therefore i wanted to put another cpu cooler that i have with a 120mm fan.
I connect the new cooler and then the computer goes into a constant restart loop. At this moment i am afraid that i have destroyed something. I changed back to the smaller fan cooler and the pc works again. Keep in mind that the big cpu cooler works without a problem in my 2nd pc.
What can be the reason for that? Can it be because of the psu?
Best wishes

What CPU cooler is the 120mm?

I don't think it has anything to do with your PSU. You have (500W) out beside your GPU. 500W just means that's the recommended power supply you need for your system if you're using the GTX 980. That GPU doesn't use 500W, more like 165W. You have plenty of power for your system.

Did you use any thermal paste? When I switched my fan out, it wasn't making a good seal on top of the CPU and it would shut down almost instantly until I reseated the fan. What brand and model is the newer fan?
