Computer won't do anything

I built 2 computers, both of which have the same issue. I hit the power button, and the computer turns on, but no peripherals, monitors, nothing. I thoroughly inspected both motherboards (both of which are brand new out of the box), swapped cmos batteries, tried one ram stick at a time, reseating cpu, reseating gpu, reseating the cooler, made sure no metal was touching anywhere but the standoffs, nothing is overtightened, I'm starting to think it's the case wires even though I've reinstalled them several times. I'm starting to freak out. Maybe it's the octacore processor I recently installed. I know it's getting enough power, both power supplies are 750w. I really need help, I can't afford to replace another motherboard.

Specs1: gigabyte ga-78lmt-s2 AM3+ and 760G+ SB710 micro atx motherboard, octacore amd fx8350, 16g ram, 750w power supply.

Specs2: Asus m5a97 motherboard, octacore amd fx8350, 16g ram, 750w power supply

Ok, so I just found out that motherboard (even though its the same socket) doesnt support my cpu. I'll try to update the bios on the other one. And see if that works.

How would a person in my situation update the bios? Do I just plug in a USB with the rom installed and hope it's working? Or do I have to set something up in dos?

The cpu I have is compatible with the Asus, but its having the same thing, I'm starting to think it's the super old case due to the fact some standoffs are stripped/missing and theres floating screw holes in the motherboard
