I built my new rig a few months ago and had just a single 240g ssd as my starter harddrive. Just before Christmas I bought a 1T wb blue hdd and plugged er in. It wouldn't find it then, but I did some searching on the internet found out that it was unallocated. So I go into device management and format the drive and bam it's up and running, I can go to my computer and it shows in right there next to the ssd. Fast forward to the other day, I go to my computer and it's no where to be found. It doesn't even show up in the storage device management page where you can allocate the drives. But if I go storage devices it show wd????? right underneath my Kingston ssd.

Sorry for the little info on that last part I'm at work and can't look at exactly where it shows that the hdd is plugged in and working I just can't access it.

I hope that wasn't to long for you, please help.

I see, if this is the case, I'd suggest that you get in touch with our customer support for further instructions, to see what they have to say about that problem and if you can RMA the drive. Here's a link to our CS portal: WD SUPPORT PORTAL
Hey there, Chase.

Sorry to hear about the problem you're having with your drive. 🙁
Do you have data on that drive, which you wish to recover?
I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the same thing happens. It would be even better if you can try it with a different computer as well.
If you don't have any data to recover, I'd suggest that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard) and test the drive by running both tests (Quick and Extended), to see if anything unusual pops-up. Here's how to do it How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

Please let me know how everything goes.

Are those Removable Disks some sort of virtual drives? I can't really tell what's happening there. But there one thing for sure - the HDD is not recognized in Disk Management.
Please let me know what are the results once you complete the DLG tests and if you try the drive with a different computer.

Those removable disks are a multi card reader I have. Quick test went fine 26 mins left in 2nd test

i dont have another computer to try it in. i just unhooked the hdd and put a sata cable on it i no works and in a port that works, still nothing. in the process i also put a 120 ssd in that i had to test the cable out that was on the hdd and it is in working just fine.
