I have an Alienware 17 R2 laptop that I recently did a fresh installed Windows 10 on and went to update the BIOS from the Dell website. The BIOS update appeared to have almost finished when I got a BSOD and the computer shut down. However when the computer shut down the lights stayed on and the fans kept running for a good 5-10 minutes before I had to take of the bottom panel of the laptop to unplug the battery cable from the motherboard. The fans obviously stopped running after that and the lights shut off.

Now I'm unable to use the computer at all. I press the Power button and the laptop doesn't do anything, no fans, no lights, no beeping. I have tried a few things to remedy the problem and troubleshoot but I'm not an expert with laptops. I have unplugged the battery cables and the AC/DC power connections to the motherboard. I have removed and replaced the battery, although I haven't changed the battery out completely. I just removed it so that some components might reset or something. I tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds while the battery was disconnected and then again while the battery is reconnected like the dell website suggested.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day.

Can I just unplug the battery from the motherboard or do I need to completely remove the battery pack?

Find the CMOS pins or battery on the motherboard. Also, if it's an Alienware it may have a dual-BIOS...? I don't know i'm not familiar with their stuff. Check for those things, try to clear the CMOS by pulling the CMOS battery (a small coin battery if it's got one) or shorting the CMOS pins (if it has those) and check back.

So I found the battery and pulled it out for a few minutes, put it back in and then tried starting it and nothing. Should I have left it out for longer?
