Computer won't stay on or won't turn on

When I woke up today and tried to turn on my computer it would not turn on. It showed no signs of receiving power. I tested the power supply using a paper clip in the green and black wires on the 24pin connector. The PSU turned on and I saw the fan spinning. I tried reconnecting my PSU to my PC and it turned on! The problem now is it won't stay on. It will stay on for a few seconds up to a few minutes then it just shuts off.

I currently have a i5 2500K stock, Asrock Extreme4 Gen3, Corsiar TX750 psu.

A paper clip cant test a power supply. It can work and stay on under load and then just make power that fluctuates enough to cause problems. If it wont stay on, It could be the power supply, it could be a bad drive, The Motherboard could be having problems, the CPU or video card could be heating up, a fan could be running intermittently, or some other unknown issue like brown outs from the Power Company.

Stock as in not overclocked, I have a Corsiar H50 cooler. I do not think it is a heat related problem because it happens when the computer has been off for a long time. Its probably the PSU or motherboard. It is happening again today. So today I came home from work and turned it on and it stayed on for maybe 20 seconds then shutdown with no attempt to reboot. I tried turning it on again and the same thing, it lasted maybe 20-30 seconds then shut down. The third time it stayed on for maybe 10-20 minutes and the 4th for maybe 20-40 minutes. I haven't turned it on yet since then. I tried unplugging everything except my mouse, keyboard, one monitor and my ethernet cable, and it seems like it runs for a longer period of time, but still shuts off. I should also add that I have everything plugged into the back of my motherboard. Yesterday I tried the same thing. I unplugged everything that was not necessary then slowly started to plug stuff back in, my headphones(3.5mm jack), 2nd monitor, microphone, and my 2TB external HD and it stayed on for the rest of the night(5 or so hours).

Also after unplugging the computer from the wall and then plugging it back in the computer would not turn on at all for about 5 minutes, no sign of power at all.

It is most likely the power supply, what you've mentioned are typical symptoms of that. If I were you I'd run to the nearest store that sells a usable power supply and pick one up, if it works great if not just return it. Even if it's just cause you want a better one you can just return it and say it doesn't match what you needed. If it's not the power supply which seems unlikely, start by checking cheap easy stuff. You can take it down to one module of memory to rule that out, unplug anything you don't need and then try replacing the motherboard.

So I went out and got a new power supply and has definitely helped. My computer still randomly shuts off but no where near as much. So that is 2 shutdowns in about 6 hours compared to barely being able to start and constantly shutting off. It has shut off twice today but has no problem turning back on.

So I replaced my PSU back in January and have not had any problems until today. I got home from work and it would not turn on. After taking off the side panel and making sure everything was secure I tried again and it turned on and stayed on for about 20 minutes so I tried again and same thing, 20 minutes then shutdown. Now it barely lasts 3 minutes if that.

I know my bios is up to date and I reset my CMOS and that didn't work. Next I removed 1 ram stick(2x4GB) and it didn't help so I swapped them out, still only running 1 of the ram sticks. I had the same result with both. The computer shut down within a minute.

I should also say that the PSU I got back in January is a EVGA NEX750G.

Also what do you mean by over clock software I currently have Afterburner installed.
