To make it clear: The computer does not turn on. The CPU fans don't spin, the PSU's fans don't spin, the computer makes no noise, the monitor gets no image. All I see is the orange leds of the mobo on. Press the power button and nothing happens.

So, this one is a bit of a long story.

On April 2018, I bought a few new parts.

An Asus Prime B350M-K for AMD4 mobo
A Ryzen 3 2200g
2 memory sticks of 4 GB

I isntalled them with my previous setup which included:
Power Supply Corsair GS700
Geforce GTX 970
Barracuda 1TB HDD

I installed it and it worked fine for 5 months. On September, I went to sleep after turning it off normally. When I woke next morning and tried to turn it on, it would show no reaction to having the power button pressed. I tried a couple more times.

I turned it to the side and opened it up. I saw that the MOBO leds were turned on, so the mobo was receiving energy from the PSU at least, but when I pressed the power button, it would make no noise, the cpu fans wouldn't spin, the PSU fan wouldn't spin, the monitor wasn't getting any image. It was dead.

What I did:

- Checked the electrical slot. It was working fine.
- Tired unplugging the PSU, holding the power button down for 30 seconds and turning it on again
- Dismantle the set up, clean everything and put it back on
- Double checked the components and cables to make sure it was all in place properly
- Changed the PSU cable

Nothing worked. So I took more extreme measures.

- Tried turning it on with only the bare minimum connected (PSU, CPU, HDD, Mobo, Memories)
- Tested with another PSU that was working in my friend's computer
- Tried switching the power and reset buttons
- Tried another tower

Nothing worked. I figured it had to be either the mobo or the cpu since I ruled out the power supply, the electrical outlet and the tower right? So I rang up the warranty and sent it to them.

They claimed that it worked fine on their tests and sent it back. I got it back, set it up and it worked! I didn't think much about it and kept using it normally. About a month later, the same thing happend.

Turned it off for the night, tried to use it the next day and it didn't work. Same exact problem. I went through the same steps, I even went a step further and replaced the Motherboard/CPU with an old Motherboard/CPU set I had stored and IT TURNED ON JUST FINE. So I concluded that it had to be a motherboard/cpu problem right? I made a video showing that a different motherboard/CPU can turn on with my set up just fine.

I took it to a PC shop for an analysis. They concluded the problem was on the motherboard.

I sent it back to the warranty with the video and the Shop's analysis, they claimed it was fine and sent it back.

Only this time, it didn't work when it came back. Same issue. I took it to the shop again and when we tried turning it on there, it worked.

Took it back home, didn't work. Figured it was some sort of coincidence, so I took it to the shop again and it worked just fine. Plug and turn it on.

So apparently it would work on the shop but not in my home. Mind, I tried going to another rooms. Hell, I tried turning it on in the room that has another computer, which works just fine, and it didn't work there either.

I took it to a friend's place and it didn't work right out of the bat there either, but we left it on with a mini-fan turned on it for about 30 minutes while we went out to eat, when we came back and pressed the power button, it worked.

I took it back home, tried to get it to work again and it didn't. Now I am here. 4 months later, still facing this problem and I am not even sure what could possibly be the issue at this point.

I tested another PSU, same problem. It CONSISTENTLY turns on at the PC shop. I can take it there anytime of the day and it works first try, no problem.

In fact, an update. This morning, I tried turning it on at home and it didn't work. I took it to the shop, it turned on there. I even got to my desktop and checked to see if it recognized all components and it was all working fine. I took it back home, tried turning it on and it worked.

I am afraid of turning it off to sleep tonight and it won't turn on again tomorrow, but we will see. I'll post again iif that happens.

As predicted. I turned it off to go sleep, woke up about 2 hours later and it was no longer working already.

So, what would causa de computer to only work at the Pc shop, hold itself for over 12 hours and then just stop working after spending a couple hours turned off

MERGED QUESTION
Question from naosouonight : "Motherboard light is on but PC doesn't power. It works in the shop, not at home"

I made this thread before but I realize I was a bit long-winded in it.
First of all, what I got in the computer:

An Asus Prime B350M-K for AMD4 mobo
A Ryzen 3 2200g with its own fan
1 memory sticks of 4 GB
PSU Corsair GS700

That is it. For the sake of testing, I have NOTHING else plugged. No GFX, no chassis fan, no external cooler, no hdd or sdd, no usb connectors.

Now, the problem is this: I plug the computer to the power outlet. The mobo's led turns on. Pressing the power button does nothing. The cooler doesn't turn on, the fans of the CPU don't turn on, there is no video image through the on-board, there are no beeping sounds. No signs of life at all.

Now, here is what I tried:

- Tried another power outlet. In fact, I even tried it in a power outlet that I have ANOTHER computer on(one which works). Didn't change the situation at all.
- Tested the PSU with a paper clip. It turns on. For the sake of testing, I also tested with an entirely different PSU.
- Checked all the connectors and cables. Several times over. They are on properly.
- Tried swithing the POWER and RESET connectors in case the button was broken. Hell, I even tried another tower entirely.
- Tried setting up the mobo outside of the tower just in case it was some kind of short or metal touching something that it shouldn't
- Tried another memory stick. Also tried another socket

At this point, I can only presume that it is the mobo. But I sent it to the warranty TWICE and both times they told me it is fine. Now I want to believe they are jerking me off, so I took it to a technician to see if he had another opinion.

The computer turned on in the tech shop. Nobody touched anything. Nothing new was added, nothing was removed. We didn't even touch the cables.

-It wasn't working
-I took it to the tech
-It worked
-Took it back home
- Didn't work

Again, I checked the power outlet. It is fine. I even tried different power outlets that I know for a fact are working, even by testing another computer on the,.

Anyone has a clue what this might be? I still think it is the mobo, simply because there is no other option.

Yeah, sorry, you can't create multiple threads of the same issue.

FYI, the paperclip test on a PSU means squat since it doesn't indicate how much power the PSU can output effectively. You haven't tried a different "branded" PSU made of reliable quality. You might also want to see if you're suffering from a grounding issue.

My bad, I hadn't got a reply in over a day so I thought the thread got buried. Wasn't sure how to go about that.

But I did try a different PSU. I said I did the paperclip test AND ALSO tried a whole different PSU that I know for a fact works in another computer.

Further, I tested 2 different cases, multiple outlets and tried setting it up outside the case. Doesn't that rule out "grounding"? If not, then how do I go about doing it?
