Computer won't turn on but blue light flashes on motherboard

After finishing my first build and feeling proud of myself, I hooked up a monitor expecting everything to work perfectly, and lo and behold, it doesn't turn on. After trying to power it on a few more times, I started realizing that when I press the power button, a small blue light would flash on my motherboard. However, the blue light will only flash the first time you press the power button after turning on the power supply. In order to get it to flash again, I have to reset the power supply and press the power button again.

Note, the LED that flashes is labelled LED1 and the motherboard manual says that this first LED indicates it is going into "power phase 1".

Did you use ALL standoffs when you installed your mobo? If you did not it could be causing a short on the motherboard and preventing the system from booting.

I used all the standoffs required to screw in the motherboard and I have the MSI 970A-G46 which can be found here

What about your RAM? Do you have two sticks? Try removing one and completely re-seating the other.

Have you tried removing the mobo and starting it outside of the case?

I have a single stick of RAM and have placed it into the DIMM slot 4 as my manual says you must. I have not tried building it outside of the case and really hope is not necessary.

I would like to mention that the sides on the 24 pin connector are not fully meeting the sides on the port which might indicate that it is not fully inserted but I cannot seem to push it down any further.

Hmmmm....try re-routing your 2-pin cable so it goes all the way in.

I would like to mention that the sides on the 24 pin connector are not fully meeting the sides on the port which might indicate that it is not fully inserted but I cannot seem to push it down any further.

May be flip that around the plug has a clasp that is supposed lock on to the socket.

Now that I think about it, I didn't hear a click when inserting the 24 pin... And I also tried inserting just the 4 pin attachment without the other 20 and it goes down quite a bit further than the entire thing ever did... I have a feeling my lack of strength may be the problem here.

EDIT: after a bit more inspection, I found that the part that is supposed to clip on is visibly not under the protruding part therefore not in place. Now I just need tips on how to push it down far enough. My thumbs and hands are probably developing blisters by now.

EDIT2: damn, I did eventually manage to get it to click but the problem persists.

This is very disappointing. I tried the paperclip test on my power supply but my fan merely twitches for a split second and does not actually spin. This is indicative of a dead power supply correct?

Hey superguy I had the Sam problem the issue was my on button cable and led cables just for the power button were in the wrong places make sure the positive and negative cables are in the right place then it should fix your issue
