Computer won't use the internet but laptop will!! (Ethernet connection via broadband extender)

So a run down quick. I built a new computer about a week ago. The first few days the internet was fine but now it's struggling to get any at all.

I have a home office at the end of the garden where I link the computer to the internet via Ethernet to a BT Broadband Extender. It's the one with 3 lights (Data, Ethernet & Power). The ata light is meant to work like this:

Green light = High transfer speed/great internet connection
Orange light = Medium transfer speed/okay internet connection
Red light = Low transfer speed/useless internet connection

When it's connected to my computer it doesn't work the way it should. When there's a steady green data light I get no internet at all, but just the little yellow triangle with and exclamation point. When it's orange the connection is great but very instable and red seems to drift between terrible and great. Bare in mind I live in the country so 600-700KB/s is good DL speed for me. When I reset everything I get a short 1 minute burst of 600KB/s but then is slowly declines to below 100KB/s and eventually to 0KB/s. Then after say 10 mins it returns to below 100KB/s and fluctuates on and off, unless I reset everything in which case that cycle repeats itself.

I've tried many restarts of both my system and the router and extenders, I've tried too many possible fixes shown on forums. I've just turned my computer off as it was useless without any internet and plugged my laptop in, and low and behold I get great connection. This has pointed out that my computer is the problem but I do not know why. I made sure the necessary drivers were installed (for a Z170 DELUXE) which includes the Ethernet driver. I feel that I must have done something earlier in the week to screw up this connection. HELP ME!! MY WORK DEPENDS ON IT!!!

Let me know what you need from me in terms of hardware/software installs, etc.

All help is appreciated!!

You downloaded the network card drivers from ASUS - correct?

What network adapter is installed? Pprobably best to download the drivers directly from the manufacturer's website if at all possible.

There are a couple of "informational" things that you can do:

1) From the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) to get a sense of the current network configuration settings. They may or may not match what is expected or necessary.

2) Another command that is very useful with respect to wireless connectivity is "netsh".

Example (at the command prompt) "netsh wlan show drivers" (without quotes).

Google "netsh" for more information about the command and available switches.

The initial objective is to ensure that everything...

If not then more troubleshooting will be necessary.
