Concerns regarding CPU temperatures.

Well I have an i7 3770 which is not overclocked. Monitoring using MSI afterburner i observe that while gaming my temperatures get high as 80-100 degress celcius. Though when idle my cpu temperature stays around 40 degrees. So should I be concerned? BTW cpu cooler is the stock one that intel provides.

Using integrated graphics for gaming without an aftermarket cooler? Getting those temps will shorten your CPU lifetime. Adding a GPU would really be the best solution, but a better cooler could help some as well.... I'm kinda surprised the system isn't shutting down with a stock cooler and those temps.

Sorry forgot to mention, I do use a GPU card. But I was just concerned about my CPU since while gaming the temp got so high.

I have a two chasis coolers. One on top and the other on the front panel of the casing. My casing is Corsair Carbide Series® SPEC-02 Red LED Mid-Tower Gaming Case btw. I usually play all the high end games as AC unity Far cry 4 etc.

Is your power supply exhausting its heat upward or out through the bottom of your case? Exhausting the power supply heat directly out of the case is optimal.

Also, when posting about system issues/concerns you should probably list the system components so we can actually troubleshoot...

I assume the front fan pulls air and the top pushes it out? If it is configured like that the airflow shouldn't be the problem.

How hot does your GPU get?

Have you tried other monitoring software to see if you get the same results?

Okay so here are my specs:
Mainboard: gigabyte B75m-D3V
Processor: intel i7 3770 @3.4ghz
RAM: 12GB
GPU: msi GTX 980
PSU: thermaltake toughpower 650W
n yeah the PSU exhausts heat directly out of the casing.

GPU temperature goes to max about 70C and suaully stays around 65C. So I think its wise for me to get a cooler for my CPU?

Aftermarket coolers are never a bad idea... unless you pick a bad one. You can also check your thermal paste and re-apply (should be done ~once a year, according to most sites).

Ambient really only plays a role in unconditioned air with hot environments (Arizona, Mexico, Texas, etc)... Even then, I don't think ambient plays a huge role in operating temp, only starting.

Still, with an ambient temp of 19, getting up to 100°C while gaming seems like a lot.
What happens when you put your CPU under load outside of gaming? (Prime95) do you also get those temps?
I think you are best off re-applying your thermal paste and if that doesn't drop temperatures sufficiently i'd go for an aftermarket cooler.

Remember, metal on metal conducts the best, the paste is only there to fill up the air pockets, you want as little as possible.
(better look up a full guide on applying thermal paste if you decide to do it.)

We live in a world of standards and specifications. Intel's Thermal Specifications are based on Standard Ambient, which is 22C. We can't make accurate comparisons without knowing ambient temperature.

If you're breaking it down to the scientific terms, the delta T from startup to operating temperature should not be dependent upon ambient if the cooler is properly design. The heat transfer due to multiple fins and air movement should cause enough cooling that ambient no longer plays a role, unless another factor comes into play.

Personal Computers are air cooled. All computer temperatures are relative to ambient temperature.

Since you have a non-K i7 3770, Intel's stock cooler is adequate. Although upgrading the cooler isn't a bad idea, it shouldn't be necessary. This problem can be fixed.

Your temperatures suggest that one of the push pins is not securely attached through the motherboard.

The Intel Stock Cooler Installation Guide I posted above for you explains in detail how to check your cooler. Please give it a read.
