I just got a new condenser mic and I can't figure out why it won't work (I'm not really a tech guy).
Under recording devices I notice that my computer does recognize the mic. I've already tried adjusting the volume level and boost but it doesn't pick up my voice. initially I thought it might not be working because I don't have a phantom power supply, however my friend who has the same mic does not have a phantom power supply and his works just fine, as well as many other people saying theirs works without the phantom power as well.

I'm using Realtek Audio Drivers (Onboard audio and up to date)
Also using the default xlr to 3.5mm cable that came with the mic if that matters.

The mic: https://www.tonordirect.com/collections/recording-microphone/products/tonor-xrl-to-3-5mm-studio-recording-condenser-microphone-with-shock-mount-holder-clip
My PC Specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t2Cmcc

Any help would be much appreciated!

Solution
Personally, i would go with a full audio interface (with phantom power) It will give you much more control over the power of the mic (volume) and most probably a better sound.

There are conflicting views on this subject regarding this mic!
The manufacturer says "if your PC/laptop provides enough power ,phantom power is not necessary"

Make of this what you will!.. I am involved with sound engineering, and even to me, it is a very confusing statement!

Personally, i would try with a phantom power adaptor / interface.

Also at the same time, you MAY just have a faulty mic!

Sorry i couldn't be of more help to you.

Thanks for the feedback! I will order one and try that just to be sure.

will just a phantom power supply be the equivalent?

Equivalent no. (Guitar Center has used interfaces for $50 or less btw.)

But it will allow you to use the mic.

Okay, thanks
