Conexant high definition smartaudio 221 vista troubleshoot

Hello, My skype has been working fine until about a week ago when it decided not to let anyone hear me unless i plug in external mic. i have checked everything i can and keep getting the message that all is well and working but still no recording when i sound check thru skype. i am not a computer genius just a regular mum any help with this would be great please regards Gilli
