Conference calling in Skype

I am running Peppermint 6 and Skype works fine for one on one calling but does not work for video calling. The people I am trying to video call with receive a message that I need to update Skype to a newer version but the Peppermint 6 updater says I have the latest version , 4.3.0.37. How can I fix this? Those other people say they are using version 7.---

Skype is microsoft software thus they do not support linux well. microsoft also gives NSA full access to skype data:

I would not trust skype to be installed on my computer at all! Use the web version if you must use skype...

Hi Skittles, thanks for the reply, I tried web.skype.com and got the same results, os does not support video conference calls. If I try to use one of the other options you suggested wouldn't the people I'm trying to conference call all have to have that same program?

Blame Microsoft for not supporting (intentionally crippling their software) other OS!

Yes. Your other option is to install the windows version of skype with WINE. Or install windows+skype in a virtual machine.

Seems like skype works decently well with WINE with a little bit of work to configure it.

Someone else has reported that the web version works if you use firefox/chrome/IE10 via WINE.

Indeed I used a simple user agent switcher and made firefox appear as if it were installed on windows. It works but needs a "plugin" to get it to work which still needs WINE.
