Hello,
I decided to test one of the IBIS 160GB on a computer:
ASUS P6T WS Pro (BIOS updated)
Intel i7 Core Extreme 3.2GHz
Kingston DDR3 12GB
nVIDIA Quadro FX 4800
One (1) IBIS 160GB Boot drive
Two (2) Seagate SAS 450GB
Microsoft Win7 Pro
I had two (2) crashes !
One after Microsoft Upgrades
One during introducing key codes from Microsoft Visio Pro !

OCZ is advicing:

[ You must set Your BIOS to use " S1 Sleep Mode " for proper operation, and
Using S3 or AUTO may cause instability !

Any comment please ?

And what about the internal SAS drives or other drives ?

Do i need to provide other configuratiuons as well ?

Regards,
paralou

Hi groberts101,

Thanks for your reply, but i'l a little bit confused (!).

Is this supose to solve my problems ?

It's talking about Linux OS, which is quit different, correct ?

Thanks, all of you.

Just to let you know... I checked ALL possible information aboujt the IBIS, starting at OCZ (of course !)

But, there's no one to response my question ?

Am i alone, around the world, using IBIS ?

I'm just concerned about the REAL configuration according to my computer, but more important, about the BIOS configuration.

Many different advices are proposed, but not based on experiences !

I would appreciate reactions from people who are using IBIS drives.

paralou

You are the first person to ask a question about an OCZ High Speed Data Link based solid state drive in this section of the forum.

HSDL is not a popular interface for solid state drives. The overwhelming majority of gamers and enthusiasts use SATA and PCI-e based ssd's. The problem with HSDL is that it is not an international standard. Instead HSDL is a proprietary interface developed by OCZ. In addition the HSDL based ssd's are more expensive than SATA based drives.

Yes Johnny, i know all what you're saying.
I'm a electronic engineer , started creating programs in 1979, manager of a company devoted to industrial quality control (using vision analyzing systems) and decided to test one of the bright new technology from OCZ, but all reviews are lying, and are payed by the "creators" to promote there stuff at different customers, and waiting for reactions, to know what's wrong and (maybe) correct it. (but not immidiaely, oh no, in a few mounts...years ? !

And in the meantime, they put on the market some "unreliable" stuff !
We are the pidgeons as always !

I can tell you more about the "real" mentality of the big business marketting !..

if you are serious about requesting IBIS info then you should just post the question in your own thread on the OCZ forum. May not get the answer you're looking for but someone will respond. There are a few of the staff and mods there that use them as well.

From all that I've read/seen, the fact that they are PCI-E interfaced makes them nearly identical to the Revos and should be grouped accordingly for general rules and compatibility concerns. Good Luck on the hunt.

Thanks for your reply groberts.

I downloaded a PDF manual concerning the Revos and the IBIS as well.

I sent many messages to one of the "experts" which give me answers which are not corresponding to my questions !

I never received an answer concerning the "MUST" of the "S1 Sleep Mode" option into BIOS.

I'm consciant it's a new technology, but when someone is proposing a new product on the market, it should be reliable, and...
because it's a new technology, complete instructions to make it working savely.

I was intend to use it for image analyzes, but crashed two times ! so ... You see ?

I will give it an other try with OCZ, maybe i bounce on a REAL expert, knowing the + and - of IBIS ?

paralou

I hang out there a lot, paralou. I will look for your thread to see if I can steer some attention your way as well. Pretty busy place and the weekends are tough for staff/moderator replies so just be patient.

PS. make sure you list your system specs over there so we know what you're working with.

Hello groberts,

I sent a message to one of my knowledgable contacts from ASUS (Nederlands) asking him his advice about the BIOS configuration.
He's always ready to help me !

I also sent a message to OCZ, asking to have a contact with an IBIS expert.

Wait and see !.....

I described the computer i use for the IBIS test with my first message on top (not the most impressive !), but it's a good product assembly.

I thank you for your concern.

paralou

OCZ is verey attentif and prudent about any response !

I had a contact with the OEM Sales Europeen OCZ Manager, which answerd the day after my mail:..Using Dutch language because his in the Nederlands !

[ I hope English is alright.

In order to solve this problem I need to ask you the following:

· Have you update your main board with the latest bios available?

· the other drives in use - are they running in raid mode?

Hello all of you,

I spent hours and days to find compatible and save technical informations, and finaly, trying by my selves and several reviews, i think i succeeded !

I reinstalled a clean configuration, folowing my personal expreriences and the very detailed advices from the following link:

http://www.bhmag.fr/article-675-38-4-le-point-sur-les-ssd.html (1ère partie)

http://www.bhmag.fr/article-683-38-4-optimiser-son-ssd.html (2ème partie)

It's a french version, but should be able in other languages to (i think !).

So, following ALL proposed configuration, my IBIS is running save since several days from now.

Based on this save (?) configuration for days, i decided to install some applications:

Started with the Adobe InDesign CS4 (basicaly= 1.83GB + several other add-on files !)...

It took me exactly 27 seconds to install FULL application !!!... (from intern HDD, not DVD !)

So, i installed full package from Adobe, and the Microsoft Office Pro full package to (so far).

Now, i have to wait and see !...Using all these app's !

I will let you know later,
