About 25 thin clients on our LAN connect to our server running Windows Server 2012 R2. I have been tasked to find a way to configure Outlook 2010 for about three imap email accounts.
I have configured a yahoo account which holds more than 10k emails. The Outlook .pst file was huge! (about 500MB) and took a bit of time to get it running. Now if I go about configuring the other two additional accounts on each of the 24 remaining user accounts, that would take a really long time, take a huge space (500+500+500=1500*25=37.5GB!) and internet data.
I started looking for alternate steps when I stumbled across the idea to share the pst file across all users by placing the pst file on a location on the server and pointing outlook on the clients to that file. Found that this concern was widely discussed on the web and not recommended by experts around (citing reasons like file corruption chances, server gets slowed down etc). Also that it cannot be accessed simultaneously by different users since outlook will locked the file and only a single instance of the program can run per pst file. I tried the import/export feature but always ends up with the "Outlook is not responding" error.
Please help me out here and advice me a way get this done. We really do not want to invest on an exchange server subscription at this time.
