Confirm my build please?

So far I've bought all these parts and can return most of them if need be.

Motherboard:
GA-Z68XP-UD3

CPU:
Intel i7 2600K

Case:
Corsair Carbide 400R

Graphics Card:
AMD Radeon HD 6870

Hard Drive:
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

RAM:
Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2 x 4gb)

All I need now is the optical disk drive, sound card, and power supply I think. So far all of this has cost me roughly $940.

I don't plan on overclocking (I know, 2600k, but I got it at a discount and I need the hyperthreading).
I'll be using it for everyday stuff, mild gaming (probably Skyrim), and a decent amount of video editing.
Well, and also some audio production. But I think if anything I'll buy an external audio processor later on.

So I don't think I've made any glaring errors so far, am I wrong?

Finally some general questions:

Is the stock heatsink that comes with the i7 processor good enough if I don't plan on overclocking?
(Do I need thermal paste?)

I am totally lost on the power supply. Any general tips would be awesome. Also, my graphics card requires 500 watts, but I keep hearing that they really require less than they ask for. Sooo, what?

Unless you are an audiophile with an excellent sound system, the on-board sound from the motherboard should be enough. In general, stock fans are fine if you are not overclocking.

it is the 'best bang for buck' thing IMO.
keep the i7 if want to use hyperthreading.it is a beast.
change the hdd to spinpoint f3.it is cheaper and faster.
grab any $20 burner.this is a good sound card-

a quality 650w is enough for 6870 crossfire but you can easily find a good 750w for reasonable price.one is here-

I plan on spending a couple hundred more dollars.

I've looked at a few reviews and the WD caviar black drive is basically just as fast as the Spinpoint, just maybe not as reliable. So I'll probably try out the WD. If that breaks I'll be really pissed and think "I should've listened to him."

Im no pc expert but you can play games like skyrim with good fps with that graphics card but i would advise upgrading to a gtx 560 Ti or an 6950 as they will offer a greater proformance especially when its a more expensive build than most, and you have more money to spend.

still i would suggest don't change that PSU.upcoming cards will eat more power.so a 750w will do just fine with your future upgrades.i would suggest you to switch to 6950(you mentioned that you can return them).they are really awesome.i say don't spend more money.you don't need much of a monster GPU.your cpu is fine.only place i can find is mobo.if you want to spend some more than this is a very good deal-
