Now My Thing Is I Need To Centeralize Everything Basically Building A Media Center HTPC.. Now Last Nite Spent Great Deal Of Time On Raid Setup I’m Guessing I Be Using Riad 1… Now HDD I See A lot People Say WD Red Are Best For NAS / Media Server’s.. Then People Say Greens Are Best…But Then I Look At WD Blacks The Have 5 Year warranty.. I’m Starting To panic A little Bit Because…No1# Don’t Want To Lose My Media….No2# I Have Money To Be Replacing HDD Everytime I Turn Round .. What is Lifespan oF These Hard Drives, Currently I Have Pc I Built 6yr Ago and it Still Have Original HDD Now I Have Done Hard Disk Recovery on It A Number Of Times And Its Still Fine & It Didn’t Cost Near Az Much Az Reds & Green & Black.. So Can Anyone Offer Any Type Insight Or Suggestion As To Which I Need To Buy

Solution
Reds are designed for high utilization of a raid system used for servers. The Greens are a low power drive and not suitable for raid. The blacks will work just fine for your system in a raid configuration.

The backups are still needed because there are other things(besides HDD failure) that put your data at risk. A fire(flood, theft) can take out your whole system. Having an off-site backup means that your data can be easily recovered.
This Is Why Im Confused ... I Have Roughly 1.500 movies and heap more in Music Mp3's , Tons of photos and XBMC now people telling me I need to have all this backup az so not to loose anything , im seeing people talk about how drives fail and types of drives and nas and raid everything has got me confused its like I see people say to use western digital red hard drives and I see they only have 3 year warranty so why pick a 3yr warranty over and 5yr warranty this I don't understand
