So i was looking through new egg and was looking for a decent card for older games. Came up to this 8600GT ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085 ). Good price and good clock speeds.

Then i searched 7600gs, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=7600gs&x=0&y=0 , and their prices were pretty much the same as the 8600gt, if not more expensive (the agp one).

I dont understand.. the specs on the 8600gt are better than any of those cards there but the prices dont make sense. Also what does "effective" mean? For ex when it says : Memory Clock: 700MHz(effective)... its 1400mhz but only 700 effective or what? Im a bit confused. Direct a newbie here :_)

Woodyfly - I couldn't tell you why the prices of some graphic cards never seem to decrease. I suspect those cards fill some sort of niche market, but I have no idea what that may be.

If you really want to see something scary, look on Newegg for the current prices for the ATI Radeon X1300 series graphic cards. Remember, these are four generation old, budget class graphic cards. Can anyone explain to me (us) why these cards cost so much?
