So I have 1x4GB DDR3 (667 MHz) 1.5V cl 9
and I want to replace it with a 1x8GB DDR3 (1600 MHz) 1.5V cl 11.
Do you think it is a good idea?

Solution
Maximum RAM support is 8GB total or 4GB max per slot, so a 8GB module can't work. Get another 4GB module preferably the exact brand and model as your 4GB module for best compatibility... that's the best you can do for you notebook upgrade.

Gigabyte Q1542N notebook.

Check the specifications tab: It says;
"System Memory 2/4GB DDRIII, 2 slots (Max 8GB)"

2x4GB is obviously 8GB installed... it simple math anyone can understand so they didn't have to add "(Max 8GB)" but the fact that they did add it, is to specify that it's the maximum the notebook supports, and a 8GB module not working confirms it.
It also depends on the motherboard's total RAM support which is divided among all the RAM slots:
For example; If your motherboard's total ram support is 8GB and has 2 slots, or 4GB max per slot, a 8GB stick will not work, and a second 4GB stick would be what it needs. If you don't know this information, post your computer's specifications: If it's a prebuild, post the brand & model and if it's a homebuild, post the motherboard brand and model.

The linked specifications sheet says it has 2 ram slots... so if you see 4 ram slots, that is probably not the product page and the information I got is not accurate. Install HWiNFO to get more datailed information and also post here all the computer information you can... any information it may have on stickers, the paper manual, box information (if you have it), or try finding the exact Gigabyte computer model product page to get more exact information.
