[SOLVED] Confused about ram

I had a prebuilt pc in which i upgraded the cpu myself to a i7-6700k. I currently have 8gb ram and all I want to do is upgrade it to 16gb with a budget less than $100 but preferably less than $60. This is my mobo https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B250M-BAZOOKA.html

I’m very new to all these pc terms and I have no idea which ram is compatible with what I need help

DDR4 2133 or 2400Mhz according to the basic specifications.

Stock DDR4 is 1.2 volts, which is what 99% of all 2133Mhz and 2400Mhz memory will have.

If you wanted to add memory to your board, you do have four slots, so you could try to find a set that roughly matches the one you have and simply add another 8GB.

I recommend using CPU-Z to figure out the exact model, if you are unfamiliar with using the BIOS anyway.

B250 has a ram speed cap of 2400mhz. It is best to use ram at this speed or below since faster ram will be wasted, but faster ram should also work at reduced speed. The faster ram may be usefull if you upgrade to a newer setup with higher ram speed support.

Alternatively you can buy another identical stick to what you already have to save a little cost, but this can cause issues on occasion as the ram kits have variances being made at different times.

In addition to what NightHawkRMX said, a lot of the higher speed kits don't seem to have proper settings for XMP or for anything between their maximum rated and the minimum JEDEC standard of 2133Mhz. So unless you plan on buying a Z170/270 motherboard to fully utilize your 6700K and ram faster than 2400Mhz, I would stick with 2400Mhz kits.

What is your current stick? Take it out and look at the moden number

Mixing ram often causes many issues, so you want to get ideally a stick with same model number if possible.
