a friend suggested i buy a UPS to protect my new PC so ive been trying to do some research and im getting confused. I understand that they act as temporary power source to ensure you are able to shut down your PC safely if you lose power.

What is unclear is if they act a cleaner for any dirty power or brownouts that might happen while using the PC.

do they indeed clean power and protect from "brownouts"?

if so, could you suggest a reasonably priced unit?

Thanks!

Basically a PSU has batteries inside, the electricity loads the batteries and these batteries power up your PC or whatever you plug in the UPS, you could check Wikipedia if you wish for more information.

Yes it will protect you from brownouts and power outages aswell as give you a fair amount of time to finish your work and shut down your PC normally.

You could check this one, the rest I found are abit overpriced: https://www.amazon.com/APC-Back-UPS-Protector-Charging-BE600M1/dp/B01FWAZEIU/ref=lp_764572_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487582596&sr=1-1
