Confused with audio splitters

Solution
A lot of newer laptops are switching to the combo audio/mic jacks made popular by cell phones. They're 3.5mm (vs 2.5mm for cell phones) to maintain compatibility with regular headphones (you can plug them in without an adapter and they'll work). So yes you can use an adapter if you wish to plug in both a microphone and headphones at the same time. Some of the newer headsets (mic + headphones) use this combo jack natively, and can be plugged in without an adapter.

Edit: Here's what you want. You can tell it's the right one because the plug has 4 metal conductor regions.

Regardless of whether or not you plug in a microphone, nearly all laptops have a...
If there is no input for connecting a microphone to the laptop, then the mic is internal to the laptop it`s self.

It is usually placed at the top of the Lcd screen next to the web cam lense if it also has a fitted webcam on the laptop where you see a tiny hole.
The cable you are looking at is only to split the output or playback sound of the laptop to two devices at the same time, a set of headphones or desktop speakers.

what you listed looks to be a stereo to stereo splitter (1 input will play on both output). this will not work.

check your manual. i was trying to load the lenovo page but it would not load. see if your laptop has a combined mic and headphone jack. specifically it may be a 4pole TRRS which is the same that phones and other devices use which has both analog headphone and mic in one jack.

if it does, then a headset adapter (4pole trrs to 3pole trs) is what you want. it separates the headphone and mic signals from one jack to two. basically it will state that its for connecting headsets with 2 plugs into devices with one plug. now there are different types but since its a non-apple you shouldnt have any issue if you go with a standard adapter cable meant for nokia/android or similar. just dont get an iphone/apple model.

Regardless of whether or not you plug in a microphone, nearly all laptops have a built-in mic. But I have never heard of one not having a mic jack (whether it's separate or a combo).
