I have a Sony Bravia Android TV which has Chromecast built-in. Frequently the casting tool in Google Chrome cannot find my TV as a device, or says my Sony is not a supported device. This, despite having streamed earlier that same afternoon. Restarting the TV, rebooting my laptop, modem and router make no difference. Then, all of a sudden, cast works again.

Help articles recommend factory reset of the Chromecast device instead of just waiting it out. Posts on resetting Chromecast almost universally tell you how to do this with a device plug-in. Even though the article is titled Chromecast Built-in, the instructions mention pressing the reset button on a plugged in device.

I'm baffled that contributors so frequently misread the question or the problem and proceed to offer advice that won't help the problem at hand. Is this a sort of plague that permeates the industry or is it more a practice that contributors only know certain things and are committed to converting all questions into the only one they know how to answer.

My Question. HOW . . does one do a factory reset for a Chromecast that is BUILT-IN to the TV and will not have a plugged in device or dongle?

Probably achieved by performing TV Reset from the TV setup menu. That's what I do when Youtube or BBC iPlayer occasionally freezes on my Sony Bravia.
