confusion on switching motherboards

so at the moment I have a MSI B350 pc MATE with a Ryzen 7 1700, and I'm planning on upgrading to the Ryzen 7 2700x (for overclocking reason) and to a MSI X470, since I'm switching over from a B350 to a X470 both made by MSI, could I just install my 2 hard drives and boot up my system fine (like how I left windows 10 before the switch) since I'm not switching manufactures, or would I have to go in and do something else before the switch since their two different motherboards?

this will be my first time doing any type of upgrade to my PC, and I'm kind of confused on what I should do when switching motherboards of the same manufactures, because I would assume since they're both made by MSI I wouldn't have to go in and do much vs if I was switching from MSI to Asus

sorry if this was a silly question lol

There is a good chance it will simply boot up.
There is also a good chance that it will fail completely.
There is also a chance that it may boot up, but you're chasing strange issues for weeks.

I've seen all 3.

Prepare for a full reinstall. Be glad if you don't need to.
When you do this swap, have only the C drive connected. Reconnect anything else after.

Also, for the OS licensing
Read and do this before you change any parts:

alrighty my OS is linked to my account, should i move everything to my E: thats not windows related to avoid some of strange issues or will still have a chance of running into them either way

"everything" ?
Only your personal data. Doc/music/etc.
Maybe export your browser settings.
Any applications don't count. They will need to be reinstalled.

And assuming your E drive is a different physical drive.

Again, you'll probably be doing a complete reinstall. Prepare for if it was day 1 with your system.
