Confusion over my X3220

I am confused as of the maximum operating temp this xeon can handle. It seems after looking around on google that there are two different models, one operating at 85 degrees max, the other at 62.2 degrees.

I believe i have the first of the two models i mentioned. Could someone please verify this before I fry my new CPU

Its idling at 55 degrees with a stock cooler, so I really hope 62 degrees is not the max temp, or I am in trouble

Cpu world states that the 6FB family is the CPU with the high temp threshold. CPU-Z says the CPU belongs to that family.

Its also performing weaker than my e7400 that i just replaced...

You would think a x3220 would be faster than a e7400 clocked at 3.3 ghz ?

Your chip is a B stepping. B (b3) stepping was 62c. the G (G0) was the better chip with 85c. I had a G0 X3210 back in the core 2 days. The X3220 is running at 2.4ghz vs 3.3 ghz E7400. Except in multithreaded situations, the E7400 is going to be faster.

You might want to consider saving up for something more modern. Even an i3 4130 is way ahead of that chip. FX 6300 is pretty decent budget chip as well.

Sadly I am working with an older socket 775 mobo, so im fairly limited in selection.

I have this xeon clocked at 3ghz right now, running prime 95 at 55 degrees. Im going to up it a notch or two here in the next two days and find a stable clock that wont breach the 65 degree mark and see how long this chip lasts.

I will be building a new computer within the next 6 months
