Hi guys,

I might be missing something here and that's why I decided to ask. So I just bought a big LED LG TV (1920x1080) and hooked it up with an HDMI cable to my laptop also with a native 1920x1080 resolution. All worked like a charm. BUT, when I trued to hook up another laptop, with a native resolution of 1280x800, to the TV... the TV wouldn't receive any signal? Any idea where the problem is? Would/could it ever work to be able to send signal from the low-res PC to the LED TV?
Thanks! :)
PS Merry xmas :)

Yes yes ... that's not the problem. I did pres the Fn + f4 and normally on an external monitor it would work. But somehow it does not work on the big tv. As I said, I am doing the exact same thing with both laptops but with the 1920x1080 one it works and with the 1280x800 it does not, so I just dont know what to do? Shouldnt it normally work despite the difference of native resolutions of the screens. As getochkn suggested, the fact that my display can max go up to 1280x800 does not mean the laptop cannot play a full hd 1080 movie and play it on an external device with a higher resolution, sooo.. what gives? :)

Well, it says many things but for resolution it only says the native 1920x1080, and that's it. Doesn't say whether or not it supports 1280x800. Maybe it's cos the GPU on the PC is WXGA 1280x800, which is an 8:5 (or 16:10) ratio and the GPU of the other PC (which successfully connects to the TV) is full HD 1920x1080 which is a 16:9 ratio. See this link for clarification on the resolutions and ratios.

So... still, any idea if this is ever going to work? Is it supposed to work in principle?

It's also evident to me that the PC I am successfully able to connect to the TV has, similarly to the TV, an LED screen with a native 1920x1080 resolution, again, exactly the same as the TV, so... fine. That's all good. But is it not possible to connect the other PC's GPU with native res. of WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800)?
