Connect a computer DVI output to a monitor DisplayPort input

I have a 22" LENOVO Monitor, which at present is connected using a VGA cable. This monitor will rotate into Portrait format, which would be ideal for my graphics work, but I want to be able to use its hi-res DisplayPort input. All the adapters I've researched, are for connecting a computer DisplayPort output to a monitor DVI input, the reverse of what I need. I only require a video capability and am not interested in the DisplayPort audio capabilities. I realise I could purchase an add-in graphics board that has a DisplayPort output, but this together with a DisplayPort cable would be a comparatively expensive solution.

I contacted Cables4sure and they confirmed that that cable would do what I wanted, but when I followed up with an order I couldn't enter Canada as country. Sent them an email and they confirmed they only ship to the U.S.A. I'm trying to organise a friend, who lives in New York, to take delivery and then forward it on to me.

I'm amazed that one of several Canadian cable/adapter manufacturers does not make such a cable.

Cheers,

Ed

Hi Smudgy,

I contacted Rocketfish (the manufacturer) and they came back and said it wouldn't work as it is designed to connected a computer displayport output to a monitor DVI input. They also confirmed they don't make one for my need. There must be a difference in the pin connections between the ends. I'm hoping my friend in New York can get me the one from Florida, though I am starting to suspect that it is the same as ll the others and is the wrong way round.
I've got a feeling that the only solution is an add-in video card.

Regards,

Ed

Hey, I am in the same situation and can't find the right cable. Have you found the solution (cable) to hook it up?
