Hey people! Noob here trying to connect a 4K monitor as an external display to a 2013 Laptop over HDMI.

Hardware:
I have an Alienware AW3418 4k Display with a refresh rate of 100 Hz.

I am trying to connect it to my Samsung Laptop NP550P5C-S05IN. The product is linked below.

https://www.digit.in/laptops/samsung-np550p5c-s05in-price-1081.html

The Samsung Laptop has an HDMI and a VGA port. It has the Nvidia 650GTM. The Monitor has HDMI, Display and USB 3.0 ports.

Problem :
On connecting my laptop to the monitor over HDMI using a high speed HDMI cable, the maximum resolution I can select is 1980x1080 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. I cannot get it to display any other resolution or refresh rate higher than this.

Attempted Solutions:
Tried to create a custom resolution using the Intel Graphics Panel. Set the custom resolution as 3440 x 1440 with a 30 Hz refresh rate, but nothing seems to change on applying this. My aspect ratio is also 16:9 and I have black bars on both sides of the screen.

Monitor is used as a main display with laptop used with the Lid closed.

What can I do to use the highest resolution on the monitor? I just need it for multi tasking and basic productivity. No gaming or 3D intense applications.
Have the Latest Nvidia drivers installed (version 376.54).

Is this technically even possible?

Help would be much appreciated!
