Hello,

Most modern Routers have USB that can be used for Printers.

My question is , which is better , to connect the Printer to the network using LAN or USB ? the Printer has both ports. what are the cons and pros of each ? thanks.

Solution
If you have more than one device on your network which needs to print, put the printer on the network.

If you plug the printer into a computer with USB and share it so other devices can print, they can only print when that computer is turned on. A network printer can print with only itself on. No other computer needs to be turned on.

When you USB connect the printer to the router, you are placing the printer on the network.

Depending on your router, each client may have to load a driver, if that's the case, ethernet maybe a little more convenient.

Also if you need WAN access to the printer, probably ethernet.

i baught a samsung laser printer that usb and wifi and hooked it up to my asus router that both 2.4 and 5g and has support for network print server. the printer will print fine once when turned on...when it goes to power savings the router thinks it turned off. this is the usb port on the router. if the printer has a ethernet port your better off using it and setting up the printer as a network one for the whole home
