connect to a network drive while being on different network

i have a computer running windows 10 acting as a server. i have it mapped to my laptop but i wanna stay connected to it while im at school is there a way i can stay mapped and have access to it while at school

You can enable remote access on the router. But it is a security risk to do so. But it should allow you to do that.

No, but it does open access to your router and network by anyone. Generally that password is for use within your local network (behind the firewall).

i already have it set up to share across my home network. i just mainly wanna try to set it up to were i can still be connected to it and get access to the files while im on a different network without opening my network to the world..... if its not possible to do it then im fine with that it would just make it easier to stay connected to the server instead if carrying around flash drives and externals and stuff

Install a VPN server on your home router (or upgrade the router to support it), then VPN home. Now your laptop is on your home network.
