Connect to lan using phone as wifi adapter

I wanted to use my phone as wireless adapter to connect to router and want to access the lan. The usb tethering built in android does not work for that. My pc does not have a wireless adapter and I was thinking if I could get away with just using an old phone. I want to connect to lan to play lan games. If I have to buy an adapter I'll just get a long ethernet cable instead. Thanks in advance.

Phones don't do that, or at least aren't designed for that. Wifi adapters are very cheap. Ethernet is far superior for gaming because it provides the lowest latency.

Find a way to unobtrusively route cable.
