Hi all,

I ran the AVG Software removal tool on my wife's laptop. Since the reboot, it recognizes wifi networks but cannot access the internet. Nor will it access the web through a hard-wired ethernet connection. Other computers work fine on the networks. The computer is a Toshiba NB505-N500BL running Windows 10. My home wifi is through Earthlink.net. My home wifi uses a Netgear R6250 router. I've tried multiple reboots, disabling and re-enabling the network adapter (which shows no errors in Device Manager), and resetting the tcp/ip stack. Ah, and just to state the obvious it was access the web fine before I used the AVG software removal tool. I do have an email into them but wanted to check with you folks, too.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Chris

Sorry, i wasn't very clear with the instructions. Lower right on your screen, point to the network icon (signal bars), right click, pick and click open network and Sharing Center, Left side of new window click on Change Adapter Settings. On the icon for your wireless network connection, right click and pick status. that will bring another window to pick details.

Hi,

Um. When I open the Network Adapters from Device Manager, there are two items:
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

I don't get a Status option when I right-click either of those. Double-clicking gives me the popup that says "This device is working properly" in the box for Device Status. Should I be checking the status from some other start-point?

I think you've hit on it, but I don't know how to fix it. Here's what I get:

IPv4 Connectivity: Not connected
IPv6 Connectivity: Not connected
Media State: Enabled
SSID: <my wifi name>

Other lines for duration & speed.

When I click on Details, I get the popup for Network Connection Details. It's totally blank.
When I open Properties (at the bottom) the following boxes are checked:

Client for Microsoft Windows
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
AVG network filter driver
QoS Packet Scheduler
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Drive
Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver
Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder
*****

Now, I am at a loss as to why there's that AVG network filter driver in there, given I just wiped out AVG Internet Security.

Thanks

Chris

UPDATE: Unchecking the AVG Network Filter Driver restored internet access. Thanks, I would never have found that!
