Connect TV to receiver

I am planning to buy a new Tv and am wondering if I could connect it to my old receiver. This way I can buy some new speakers, probably a soundbar, and use it to play music and home theatre. The speaker I'm planning on buying is the Samsung UE50JU6870U, and the receiver that I've been talking about is the Yamaha natural sound stereo amplifier ax-380.

Is this idea possible and do you recommend it, or should I look for an alternative?

TV has optical audio out so you will need a DAC to convert to analog

If you are planning on a soundbar most have optical inputs and built in amps so you wouldn't need the receiver with it.
