Connect U.2 SSD PCIe 3.1 to PCIe 3.0 mobo

I had this: 400GB Intel 750 Series SSD U.2, PCIe 3.0 (x4), NVMe, MLC NAND
and just bought this: 1TB Intel DC P4510 U.2 SSD, PCIe 3.1 (x4), NVMe 1.2, 3D TLC NAND

the motherboard is Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA with PCIs 3.0

when I disconnect old disk and connect new one the system doesnt even POST. The PC is powered up but nothing is happening, the screens are in stand by..

Only problem I see is PCIe version. I missed that when I bought it..

Is there any way I can make it work?

most likely the motherboard needs to be updated with a newer BIOS version.

Use the ASUS ezflash utility within the BIOS itself and the downloaded and unzipped BIOS file on an USB flash drive:
