Connected to Wireless Network, Can't Open Web

Hi All,

I'm at my wit's end with this, appreciate any help you guys could give.

I've hooked my uncle's computer up to a 3 Connect Wireless Mobile Broadband using a Belkin Wireless Network Adapter. The Network is running fine, the connection is fine, but I can't access the internet at all. I've tried everything I can think of with the results below.

Try to load through-

Internet Explorer: 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'
(when I run Network Diagnostics it tells me 'Windows did not detect any problem with your internet connection)

Firefox: 'The connection was reset' 'The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.'

Safari: Safari can't open the page "http://www.yahoo.com/". The error is: "unknown error" (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10053)

these results are the same whether using www addresses or ip addresses.

Does seem wierd really.
try in the console to type :
telnet
o www.google.com 80
type some jibberish and see if you get a html error 400 (http bad request)
If you do, it could be some proxy server on your computer or your local network (if on computer, it's most likely malware). If it doesn't work, try using an ip number for google (nslookup www.google.com from another pc).

Do other services like msn or games (not steam) run?
Appearently you do get dns replies according to the diagnostics, so I would guess it's a proxy problem. If it is regardles of browser though, the proxy must be some transparent thing.

If all else fails, try with a trial version of identity cloaker's openvpn portable solution (install on a pc where network works and start it. copy the entire system to a flash drive, and onto the broken client's system.

Hey, thanks for coming back to me on this.

In telnet, after typing "o www.google.com 80" I typed in a random string and got this msg header:

'HTTP/1.0 400 Bad Request
Content-Type: text/html; charset:UTF-8
Content-Length: 1350
Server: GFE/2.0'

MSN and Internet Games will run just fine.

I'm not familiar with the Open VPN Solution but I've installed it on the machine, connected to an alternate IP address, tried opening all browsers, no change. Should I be doing something more with that?
