I have a panasonic th-50px80u Plasma tv that I am trying to connect my desktop to. My desktop is an older machine, that has a VGA out only. I bought a VGA to RGB component cable, and plugged that into the back of the tv. But there is no image. I have gone through the manual, and it doesnt say anything about computers. I am wondering if I am missing something? It is set to the right input (component 1) and my computer is on, and displaying (so I know when the image works). Do i need to buy a VGA to HDMI converter? The tv only has HDMI, RGB, S Video, and Digital. I thought I would ask here before I buy something needlessly.

Solution
From what I'm reading in my searching, is that it's very unlikely a regular VGA to Component cable will work, and it needs to be an active device (powered). Something like this would work into your HDMI input on the TV : https://www.amazon.ca/Cable-Matters-Active-Female-Adapter/dp/B007SM7O2U
Also, you may have to "Clone" your video output on your computer to enable two displays. Also be aware that Plasma TV's get "Burn-In" pretty easily, so you want to avoid stationary text or graphics for too long.
