I have several windows 7 computers at my home network. Computer #1 is a desktop, 32 bit Win7, connecting with USB to HP printer. The other desktops, also 32 bits win7, are using this printer - installation through network was easy.

lately I added two laptops, the oldest one running 64 bits win7, and the newest one is running 64 bits Win8. With both of them I had same issue: when I "add printer", the OS can see the printer, but refusing to install it ("ask your admin" they say ...).

The only thing in common is the 64 bits OS. Could it be that this is an issue?
Should the drivers be the same on both side?

How can I solve that?

Solution
you need to install the 64bit drivers onto the host computer the laptop is being shared from, it should be an option on the devices sharing options.

it should be under printer properties, sharing and then drivers.
hi there,we have a Win 7 32bit and a Win 8.1 64bit.i tried to install a printer in Win 8.1 64bit desktop and share it,i install both 32 and 64 bit drivers in the host PC(Win 8.1)..the printer is seen and checked in the Win 7 32bit machine and was able to print the test pages on both PCs..problem was when both the PCs were restarted, everything was back to scratch.so, i uninstall/remove the printer on both PCs,connect the Epson printer into Win8.1 64bit,install both 32 and 64bit drivers and the same with Win 7 32bit,both 32 and 64bit drivers were installed..both PCs can see the shared printer but only the Host PC (Win 8.1 64bit) can print..
what went wrong with this setup???

thx,
Jovi

A 32bit cpu needs 32bit driver and a 64bit cpu needs 64bit driver. STOP. Do not install more than 1 driver per machine.

It really doesn't matter what PC your printer is attached to.

On your printer-attached PC (say PC1), you tell driver my printer in on the USB(?) port. Then you tell Windows to SHARE it. BAM!

On your other machine (say PC2), you tell driver my printer is on the network and shared by PC1.

That should do it.
