Hi, first of all sorry if this is the wrong place I had no clue where to put it in terms of wether it was connectivity, networking or systems simply because it's 2 systems. Anyway.

I have recently bought all the parts for my new of pc and all have arrived except for the optical drive. I need to install windows 8 via a disk and was thinking of how to overcome the problem. One thing I wondered was if I could connect the desktop to a laptop with a disk drive and use the laptops disk drive to load windows 8 onto my HDD. Is this possible ? If so how and will I need any particular wires or not. The laptop is very new and runs windows 8 itself.

Thanks a lot !

The problem is that it isn't my laptop and I don't really want to take it apart and have to put it back together again :/

The dvd drive in your laptop likely uses a mini sata connector that will not just connect to your desktop.

If you have an 8gb usb drive available you can use that instead of a CD.
You will need to use Nero or Roxio or if your laptop has no burning software you can download Ashampo burning studio.
Then insert your win 8 disk on your laptop and run the software and have it make an ISO disk image from the CD.
Then you can download the Win 7 DVD Tool, and then run the software and have it install the ISO image you made onto the USB drive.
Then you select the USB as your first boot device on your desktop PC and install windows 8 that way. Using the USB will be significantly faster then with a CD.
