Connecting a GTX 1050 to a VGA monitor. via DP-VGA apdater

So im planning to buy a GTX 1050 which doesn't support VGA connection (my monitor only has a vga port), i am going to buy a Displayport to VGA active adapter. However the GPU's adapter is Displayport 1.3 while the adapter is Displayport 1.1 to VGA. Will it still work cause i heard that they're backwards compatible but not sure...
