I have broadband internet with no wifi. I am wanting to connect my tablet to my pc via ethernet. I know the most common way is an ethernet to usb cable but I cannot use that cable as my tablet has no usb port. the tablet cord has the mini, phone charger type end and usb on the other.
I tried plugging the usb end from the tablet into the usb port on my pc and connect that way but when i enable use ethernet it shows no ethernet device.
How do I connect? Would a portable router work?

hmms... well... dunno about the cable hell and costs, but wouldn't it be viable to get a cheap tplink or asus router/probably with usb port, so you can put a pen drive in it that would supply a small network disk/ and set up a wi-fi network? it will help with your tablet, your phone and will supply you with up to 4 lan ports...

Running Ethernet thru USB connection is possible, but requires extensive knowledge on both ends, and is not for novice. You have two options:
- get a WiFi adapter for your other computer, and share it's Internet connection. You could spend as little as $10 on that.
- get a WiFi router, and replace your existing router (or add a WiFi Access Point). You can get a basic router for like $30, and have the luxury of using your tablet without having your other computer turned ON.

Friend gave me a netgear adapter. I installed the drivers and followed the instructions. It searches then comes up with the message wps connection timed out no connection made between adapter and selected device. I have no clue what this means/what I'm doing wrong.

I have windows 8.1. From what I understand they have removed the ad-hoc feature. I went into network connections and created a network bridge. on network connections it now shows ethernet, network bridge, wifi and wifi 2. wifi and wifi 2 show to be connected to the bridge and It shows ethernet enabled and bridged. What steps do I take next?
