connecting boards

I'm just another guy who has jumped on this projector bandwagon. I have a Viewsonic 14" panel. I've disassembled it and have now run into the "ribbon problem". There are two boards, connected to the panel by ribbons. The two boards connect to each other. Here are a some pictures:

Now, two questions: Is it unrealistic to believe that I can just connect these two boards with two cables? And if the answer to that is no, does anyone know where I would even start to look for such cables?

Do you think in the monitor you mention, may the circuitry be floded back, to have edges without any circuitry?

I intend to make a (home-made and cheap) LCD video wall.
