Connecting camera to computer

Hello,
I've been trying to connect my camera to th computer to download pictures, but, keeps asking
me to retry

try a different usb port

preferably one on the rear of the pc not the front if its a desktop

did you set the mode of the camera when you plugged it into the computer?

Did you try turning the camera on while it was plugged in? I know I have to turn mine on for it to actually be recognized by the computer. Did you install the drivers for the camera?
