Hi guys,

I am running some cable through my wall in a few days and I'm not certain about the color code I must use. I will be passing CAT6 cables through all my walls but unfortunately, I only have cat5e keystone on hand so I will be using those.

If I'm not mistake, cat5e and cat6 don't use the same color codes. I was wondering, which color code should I use? Cat6 cable or cat5e keystone?

I will then be making a bunch of cat6 cables to run from the wall plates to the computers. These will be configured as cat6 cables with the cat6 tips on them.

Could someone let me know which code to use please?

Thanks!

TIA/EIA 568B is the normal color scheme I've used - forever

1-White with Orange
2-Orange
3-White with Green
4-Blue
5-White with Blue
6-Green
7-White with Brown
8-Brown

You technically only need to terminate 1,2,3 and 6 for 10/100 ethernet
you need all 4 pairs for gigabit ethernet

CAT6 or CAT5e are specifications of cable types and throughput of data signals
RJ45 are the connectors that are terminated to make ethernet cables

terminating a CAT6 cable into a CAT5e keystone jack is a PITA, and a waste of CAT6 cable IMO
