Connecting Cell phone to Laptop

I have a Samsung Android cell phone. Verizon told me to just turn on the Bluetooth tethering and the laptop would recognize it. All I would have to do is key in the password. The lap top is asking for a network security key. I don't know where to find that. HELP

Network security key sounds like it's for WiFi not for Bluetooth.
