Connecting gtx 960 6 pin to 8 pin psu slot

Can i connect asus strix gtx 960, which has 6 pin, to 8 pin psu? ( i do not have a 6+2 cable, just one cable with 8 pin to an end and 6 pin to the other)

you should, since the 2 additional pin are additional GRD. I'm surprised you're PSU doesn't have the 6+2 connector. What your PSU model? Just curious

Most people use it to split the power, but you'd just be using it to adapt it fit your GPU if it doesn't.

Yes it's fine, the plug is the same as a six pin, just with two extra things for a GPU that needs them. modern powersupplys all come with 6+2 PCIE cables, so you always have the option of either making it a 6 or an 8 pin.
