Connecting laptop harddrive without a caddy connector

I had ordered a hard drive for an old Dell Inspiron 1721 I found laying around, but when I went to connect it I realized there was no way it was going to fit into the port. The connectors on the harddrive do not stick out enough to be able to fit into the port.

You need the connector.

It should be on the end of the old drive. If you don't have one you'll need to buy one.
